patience [ˈpeɪʃəns]

1. tolerant and even-tempered perseverance
2. the capacity for calmly enduring pain, trying situations.
I'm tempering the area of my body that manages this skill. Daily there is a struggle of flexing this muscle when necessary. I think this characteristic is not a static thing, it waxes and wanes, ebbs and flows. The current is sometimes yielding and easy; at other times the you're working against something that is stronger than than your patience. So then you become still, take a deep breath and put on a brave face.
My daughters name is Patience. :)
